Hammish may have something there. I was never aware of the steering tubes is very busy, but maybe some are? It's pretty easy to see that. I put in a bike shop, if they have already cut with the fork dies and usually charge $ 10 to $ 15 and a thread. It will be a bit more if you cut in too low. It is very simple, if you have the tools. By the way I did this way back when, but if I remember correctly was 1 "more or less reduced.
